Q & A

Q.  In what order should I read the Rain/Storm Series?
A. In the Rain Series: Former Rain is #1, Abundant Rain is #2, & Latter Rain is #3. The Storm Series is a take off from the Rain Series and follows this order: Rain Storm #1, Through The Storm #2.

Q. When is the next book coming out?
A. My new book is Forsaken. It will release in October 2009.

Q.  I saw in one of your earlier books that you would write Donavan’s Rain and After the Rain but I can’t find those books. What happened?
A. You are correct, I did intend to write Donavan’s Rain and After the Rain, but when I worked through the books in the series I just couldn’t fit them in. So, these books have not released and I don’t expect that they will be written. I’m sorry about any confusion that may have caused.

Q.  I know that you tour a lot to promote your books. What is the touring experience like?
A. I get up go to my signing event, then I go to the next signing event. When that’s done I go back to my hotel, go to sleep and start it all over again the next day. Oh, I also eat a lot while on the road – I habit I’m trying to stop.

Q. Do you have your future tour schedule posted anywhere?
A. Yes. You can always go to my website: www.vanessamiller.com and click on the tour schedule link for updates on my tour.

Q. Where do you write? What are your work hours?
A. I have writer friends who go to Starbucks or other places like that to write. For me, that’s too distracting. I like to write in my home office. I find that my creativity flows better that way.

My work hours are normally from 9am to 4pm. Unless I’m on deadline and then I just work non-stop.

Q. How do you come up with your storylines?
A. My stories come to me in different ways. Sometimes I get ideas during my prayer time or while listening to a sermon. Other times I have received ideas while watching or reading the news. I have had conversations or listened to a gospel song that provided me with ideas for books.

Q. Do you work from an outline?
A. When I wrote my first couple of books, I did not do an outline. I just wrote the book and let the characters lead wherever they wanted to go. But now that I’m further into my career and have to turn in proposals to publishers before I write a book, I forced to do outlines. I don’t always follow the outline once I get into the heart of the book, but I still like having an outline to look at while I’m writing.

Q. Are your stories plot driven or character driven?
A. I am more of a character driven writer. Before beginning a book I write a detailed character sketch so that I become very familiar with my characters. Then I let the characters tell me where the story should go.

Q. How much time do you spend sketching out a story before you begin writing it?
A. It takes me about a week to two weeks to sketch out a story.

“A fast-paced, page-turner, a must read. I recommend this book to everyone, especially those that believe because of their past indiscretions and wrong doings they do not deserve to be loved or forgiven.”

Trust, Forgiveness, and faith, the core of author Miller’s message are woven into a light love story that offers help and healing… good romance that ministers.

[Vanessa] writes with conviction and determination. Her characters are very familiar to the reader by the novel’s cliffhanger ending.
